Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at  if you cannot find an answer to your question. Mudandhappinesspottery@gmail.com

Dont stress.  As long as the clay is still soft, you can take as many imprints as you like.  If the imprint is damaged, simply smooth the clay with your finger, pulling the clay from the outside into the center. You can also use a flat tool to smooth out the clay and try again.  If it is really bad, you can take the clay out, roll it into a ball and then flatten it out to the same thickness as the kit and try again. If your pet is far too hyper to allow you to take an imprint, we suggest that you wait until they are asleep or get a friend to help you hold them still.

Shipping usually takes 4 to 7 days to get the kit and the same amount of time to get back to us.  We work on each imprint very carefully and take our time to ensure it is done right.  The working process is done as quickly as possible but the majority of time is taken up by the drying process, which we cannot rush.  We carefully slow dry each disc to avoid warping or cracking.  If discs are not completely dry before bisque firing, they can explode inside the kiln.  Bisque firing takes 24 hours and glaze firing can take up to 2 full days.  We strive to ensure that you get your finished product within 3 weeks.

No problem.  As long as the imprint looks good, we can fix the rest.  Even if it is very off-center, we can fix it.  Remember, if you would not like the nail marks to remain as part of the imprint, simply check the option to remove the nail marks.

Sometimes.  Some other impression companies use a low temperature firing clay to save money. Unfortunately, this clay melts in traditional kilns.  If you know the type of clay they offer  is compatible with a standard kiln (cone 5/6) then we can definitely finish it for you.   Simply contact us by email for pricing and details.  You will need to send  the kit to this address.

Yes, but we would have to take a casting of your existing imprint and turn it into one of our ceramic options.  Simply send us your imprint and we will send it back with the finished product.

It is so terrible when we unexpectedly lose our pets, and sometimes we regret not making the decision to get a momento done before it‘s too late.  Vets will often offer kits to take the imprint for you but making decisions at such a hard time is difficult.  Even if you did not get an imprint done, vets will most likely take an ink print automatically for you.  If you would like, we can turn your pets ink print into a contour transfer onto a ceramic disc.  Simply email us and we will get back to you with details and pricing.

Sometimes the organic material in natural earthenware clay can produce mold on the surface. Is this going to be problem?

The short answer is no but, we understand that working with mold is, well, icky and can cause irritation to skin or lungs.  Use kits in a well ventilated area and, if you have sensitive skin,  gloves are a good idea and/or always wash your hands thoroughly after.  Mold will not affect the clay and will actually make the clay more playable and easy to impress.  Any organic material such as fur or mold will safely burn off in the kiln.

Yes you can but you must make sure it is absolutely thawed out first.  Do not try to take an imprint while the clay is still cold or it will crack.  Do not attempt to heat or thaw the clay in the oven or microwave.  It must be slowly warmed to room temperature before using.  If small cracks do appear after pressing your pets paw into it, then don’t panic.  Most cracks can be repaired as long as they do not go through the paw impression itself.  If it does, then you should smooth the clay and try again.
